Chronic pain

How chronic pain massage differs from a standard massage

Chronic pain is pain lasting three months or longer. When it does not settle, it is often kept going by a pattern of tension in the Fascia rather than a single injured spot. Myofascial release treats the whole pattern, following the lines that test tight from the feet to the head.

The pattern

Why chronic pain moves around the body

Because Fascia is continuous, the body adapts around an old injury, a working posture or a stressful period by tightening along whole lines. The pain may move from the back to the neck or hip as different parts of the line take the strain.

Session

Your session for chronic pain

Your history comes first, including scans, diagnoses and treatments already tried. A whole body assessment follows, then treatment along the lines that test tight and a clear plan for the following sessions.

Between sessions

Building on each session when pain is long term

Long term pain changes slowly, so small daily habits matter. Keep a short note of what eases and what aggravates your pain between visits, as patterns often show up within a fortnight. Gentle movement in many directions, good sleep routines and slow breathing all support the changes made in treatment.

Bring the note to your next session so the plan can be adjusted to what your body is telling you.
