Sustained pressure

The core technique. A hand, forearm or fingers sink slowly into the restricted tissue and hold for one to five minutes, following it as it softens rather than forcing it.

Cross hand stretch

Both hands are placed on the skin, crossed, and gently drawn apart to take up the slack. The stretch is held until the tissue lengthens under the hands. It suits broad areas such as the back and thighs.

Skin rolling

The skin and the superficial Fascia beneath it are lifted and rolled between the fingers to free layers that have stuck together.

Active release

Pressure is held on a muscle while you slowly move the joint, so the tissue slides under the hand. It is useful for the shoulders, hips and calves.

How a session combines them

Your history and an assessment of posture and movement come first. The techniques are then chosen for each area along the Anatomy Trains lines that test tight, and movement is checked again at the end.

He spent time analysing my posture, looking for the sources of my problems, explaining to me how they are all linked, then gradually working on releasing the fascia in every single part of me.

I had physio, treatments, sports massage, and scans from professional sports clubs. Once I met James, it was literally the first session, there was such a release. As I moved, I could feel zero pulling, like the whole area just opened up.
